This edition of the Affordable Art Fair which is on now in Battersea Park, London, until Sunday, celebrates female talent with a specially curated exhibition of works by women artists by the new Fair director, Lucinda Costello.
This season’s edition also sees the return of the fair’s Platform Projects initiative, showcasing innovative installations by emerging and established artists, including a former Cirque du Soleil performer and a computer scientist.
The fair’s Platform Projects initiative returns with new interactive works to explore. Rising star Neus Torres Tamarit reveals her new immersive work Biomorpha. Reflecting the instinctive way humans adapt to sudden changes to survive, guests will be invited into a room where the floor mutates and shifts in reaction to their movements. Working at the intersection between art and science, the work has been created in partnership with computer scientist Ben Murray.
Meanwhile, Hermione Allsopp’s Bedlam transforms functional bedroom furniture into dysfunctional sculptures and, by repurposing discarded domestic items charged with memories and meanings, her work tackles issues of consumerism and waste.
Husband and wife duo Davy and Kristin McGuire will also be debuting a new collection of film noir-inspired video vignettes. Davy, a theatre professional, and Kristin, a former Cirque du Soleil performer, combine their experience and love for theatrics to create mesmerising scenes with a unique dark humour.
Following on from their debut at the Affordable Art Fair Bristol 2017, as part of the UWE Recent Graduates’ Exhibition, exciting new talent Laura Collins and Alice Vaughan will be showcasing their work on a London stage for the first time.
