Spread over the Victoria Miro’s London spaces, Yayoi Kusama has created three immersive rooms which place you at the centre of the installations.
All the Eternal Love I Have for the Pumpkins is a room within a room. It transports you to the middle of a pumpkin field. Infinite lines of pumpkins pop out at you, emitting a warm, orange glow.
As the name suggests, Chandelier of Grief explores loss, longing and memory. A lone flickering chandelier in the centre of the room is reflected to infinity in walls of panelled mirrors. In the mirrors, numerous pathways appear. As you walk towards them, your reflected selves walk away from you, without a backward glance. The light flickers. Like the memory of someone you’ve lost, they’re just out of reach.
Where the Lights in My Heart Go presents a world of cosmic light. When you enter the room you step into a universe of stars, becoming part of an infinite cosmos.
Silver baubles silently move around on the surface of the water in Narcissus Garden, part of Victoria Miro’s permanent collection. The stainless steel balls are at the mercy of the water and the elements. Like us.
